TSN is reporting that Marian Hossa has signed with the Chicago Blackhawks. The deal is for 12 years at 5.2 million a season.

Fantasy Impact for Chicago
This is certainly an interesting situation to say the least as very few people predicted Hossa to head to the Windy City. It’s going to be difficult to pass on Hossa in the first round if he’s available when you pick, but keep in mind a point that Kory made a few weeks back. In fantasy terms, Marian Hossa was a draft bust in 2008-2009. Despite the talent that surrounded him, he was only able to amass 71 points last season, 8th among right wingers in the league. Certainly lower than many expected of him.

Hossa arrives in Chicago with a slew of talent around him, much like he had in Detroit. It begs one to ask the question of whether the talent of Toews, Kane and Sharp will take away from his production next season like it did in Detroit. Certainly keep it in the back of your mind as you proceed through the first couple rounds of your draft. Not for nothing, but Corey Perry could be a player that trumps Hossa, especially in roto leagues, due to his well-roundedness on the ice.

For managers in keeper leagues, Hossa is a rock solid investment for sure as 12 years with a growing team is certainly a worthwhile investment.

Keep in mind that the right winger pool is extremely thin and that Hossa will certainly go in the first couple rounds of a regular 12-manager league. Just remember that Hossa is not the end all of right wingers and there are other options out there, and based on last season’s results, it may be wise to explore those options before committing to Hossa.
