Who’s Hot, Who’s Not (3-26-09)

Here’s a look at this past week’s hot and cold performers:

Who’s Hot:

Owen Nolan (Minnesota) – The veteran has had a strong week with 5 points (3 coming on the power play) in his last 3 games. He’s also been good for 12 shots, as well as 12 face-off wins.

Marian Gaborik (Minnesota) – Sticking with the Wild, their injury prone star is back with a bang; 3 goals, 5 points, and 15 shots in his first 3 games back.

Rod Brind’Amour (Carolina) – This guy isn’t done yet! In his past 5 games, Brind’Amour has 8 points, 6 PIMs, and a +4 rating.

Steve Stamkos (Tampa Bay) – He continues to look like the #1 pick as of late with 5 points and 3 on the powerplay in his last 3 games. He’s also riding a 6 game point streak where he has a total of 8 in that span.

Sam Gagner (Edmonton) – Gagner has 4 goals and 6 points in his last 4 games. His 6 game point streak was snapped on Sunday, but he came right back Tuesday to add a helper.

Other notables: Nick Foligno (Ottawa), Alexei Ponikarovsky (Toronto), Mikhail Grabovski (Toronto)

Who’s Not:

Paul Statsny (Colorado) – Stastny is likely done for the season with a foot injury. Unless you are in a keeper league, it’s best to drop him and pick up another more useful option at such a plentiful position.

Mikko Koivu (Minnesota) – Another injury blow; Koivu could be done for the remainder of the season with a knee injury and managers might be better off picking up a better option rather than waiting on more information. For those still optimistic, we’re supposed to learn more on Friday.

Brad Richards (Dallas) – Richards came back from a wrist injury on Saturday and in the 3rd period he broke his other wrist and is out again. Another center who’s only useful in a keeper league.

Markus Naslund (New York Rangers) – Only 1 point in his last 4 games and he keeps seeing his ice time decrease.

Andrei Kostitsyn (Montreal) – Kos hasn’t pointed in 6 games and is a -6 in that span. It’s time to find another option at left.

Other notables: Petr Sykora (Pittsburgh), Kevin Bieksa (Vancouver), John-Michael Liles (Colorado)
