Selanne to Miss 4-6 Weeks with a Quadriceps Injury

TSN is reporting that Ducks winger Teemu Selanne will be out of action from 4 to 6 weeks after receiving a cut to his left quadriceps.

Fantasy Impact:
Certainly not the way fantasy owners wanted to kick off their holiday season. Selanne is leading the Ducks in goal scoring this season and has been a serious force to be reckoned with on the power play thus far. While he may not have much keeper luster, he may the best player in that ‘year-to-year seasoned veterans’ category, so the impact is somewhat substantial. While the Ducks are somewhat anemic on that right side in terms of fantasy caliber players, there may be a few noteworthy guys that may be able to benefit from Selanne’s injury. Bobby Ryan could pick up some of the slack if given an opportunity to move to the right wing. He is extremely talented and should be available in many leagues. Andrew Ebbett has also been called up to complete the Ducks’ roster and is proving to be a hidden gem for the Iowa Chops this season scoring 10 goals and adding 19 assists in 28 games played. Give Ebbett a couple of games before you make a play for him to see what kind of ice time he is getting and who his linemates end up being.

Lastly, don’t expect Rob Niedermayer or George Parros to have much of a fantasy impact with this injury. Niedermayer will still be a 3rd line two-way player and Parros will still be a 4th line instigator who is most valuable in leagues that reward heavily for penalty minutes.
