Per TSN, Cam Ward has been placed on injured reserve with a groin injury. The severity of the injury is not yet known.
Fantasy Impact:
Ward has had a fairly up and down season to date and a setback like this could mean trouble for his starting job if this ends up being a serious injury. Before the season, Saucerpass previewed the Hurricanes and mentioned that Michael Leighton is a threat to Ward and that poor play or injury could result in Leighton getting the opportunity to showcase his talent. Well, that time is now and Ward owners should act quickly. The ‘Canes are finally healthy up front and are expected to get back on track here over the next several weeks. This could be a real opportunity for Leighton who has had a rough couple of outings as of late. In the beginning of the season, he was the better tender of the two, so we will have to see what he does with the opportunity. Carolina has called up Brett Carson from Albany, however, I don’t see him getting very many starts over Leighton. Carolina is in an extremely weak Southeast Division, so the opportunity for Leighton to get some wins is favorable, especially if the offense is firing on all cylinders.
