Per TSN, Erik Johnson could miss the entire regular season with a torn ACL and MCL.
Fantasy Impact:
This is a devastating blow to the St. Louis blue line and it forces the Blues to find another candidate to be their number one power play guy. St. Louis is somewhat thin on the back end when it comes to offensive defenders who are capable of quarterbacking a top power play line and it’s still unclear as to who will head up that top pairing. For those of you who have already drafted Johnson, or had planned on drafting him, you may want to consider a few alternate players.
Eric Brewer seems to be the top option for the Blues at this point, but his lack of significant production from the blue line makes it difficult to buy into him prior to the season starting.
Consider Jeff Woywitka or Steven Wagner as possible top pairing candidates if they are able to crack the lineup to start the season. Also, don’t forget that Alex Pietrangelo has a serious shot at making the lineup this fall and if the Blues feel he is ready to jump into NHL action, he could be a very serious threat on the power play this season. Consider him a worth while candidate to take over that top power play pairing if he is able to crack the St. Louis roster this fall.
